Because I know it can be exhausting when your day is overloaded with work, overtime, kids, and other personal responsibilities. Oftentimes there aren't enough hours in the day to get it all done. But just remember this... No matter how tired you are, and how much you feel like you can't do this one more day... You're still one extremely hot looking guy!! ;)
Here is a draft version of the cover for my novel "Dead Girl Talking." I got it yesterday afternoon. It is going to be changed a little, but I am really happy with it. I especially like the Chicago skyline across the bottom. I think it kicks ass... LOL
Banned Book Week is going on now. Click to watch the video below.
Banned Books Week is the only national celebration of the freedom to read. It was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries. More than a thousand books have been challenged since 1982. The challenges have occurred in every state and in hundreds of communities. People challenge books that they say are too sexual or too violent. They object to profanity and slang, and protest against offensive portrayals of racial or religious groups--or positive portrayals of homosexuals. Their targets range from books that explore the latest problems to classic and beloved works of American literature.
According to the American Library Association, out of 513 challenges reported to the Office of Intellectual Freedom in 2008.
Some books that have been banned include Gossip Girl, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Forever (Judy Blume), The Catcher in the Rye, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, In the Night Kitchen (Maurice Sendak) and Beloved (Toni Morrison).
Anyone have their kids bring home "Back to School Back the Bid" bookcovers from the CPS? They received around 1,000 of them at my kids school. They are sitting in a box by the office, never even passed out. I did take one and scanned it, so you can see it here. Tax payers money at work again I guess?
Your wait is over! Click to watch video. Lisa Loeb is a great musician and has some awesome taste in eyewear! :) I hate just throwing a video up here today, not what I had planned... I have to create a huge spreadsheet for the PTA today... and I still have edits to do. Not enough time in the day once again!
Marianne, Kim and I recently found out that we are going to be headlining a discussion panel on what to do with a manuscript once it's done at the Chicago North Romance Writers of America conference next April. Kim and I were on a panel at the 2008 conference, so this won't be the first time for us. The three of us will also be participating in the Saturday book signing at the conference.
The last time the three of us were together was at the 2007 Romantic Times Conference in Houston Texas. It was total craziness and I know I survived on three or four hours of sleep a night. (One of my favorite memories... Kim stumbling into the bathroom at around 3 or 4 am and almost having a heart attack when she saw me sitting on the floor texting... LOL)
I think this conference might actually fall on my birthday too, so I am sure it is going to be one crazy weekend!
I got a call this morning that my friend Misia was in a car accident... Hit by an AT&T truck. I am happy to report that she is fine, though her car is going to need to be fixed. Thanks to the police officers who helped her at the scene. :)
Sorry I missed posting yesterday and today. It's been a strange two days here. It seems like everyone fell off the face of the earth this weekend. (Well everyone except Catherina! LOL) I even checked my phone to make sure it wasn't broken because normally I get calls and text messages at all hours of the day. Today nothing (again... except Catherina). So now I am going to go kill some time on Facebook before I go to bed. Here's hoping tomorrow is a better (and normal) day!
Click to watch. I used to love the Monkees when I was younger. (Peter was my favorite). This is actually a really good song (I think) and I like the lyrics a lot. They are sweet and romantic... kind of like me... LOL (kidding, kidding).
I don't know what the hell I got but it started late yesterday morning and has gotten progressively worse. I did go to the doctor and the strep was negative and they said no to a double ear infection. Funny thing is my throat is killing me so I can hardly swallow (go ahead... insert joke here... I'm giving you a freebie!! LOL) and both my ears feel like they are full of water and I can hardly hear. And did I mention the fever?? And no, I don't think it's the swine flu, though I always liked Miss Piggy... I guess I have to suffer this one out.
So while I am down for the count here, take a nice trip down memory lane and watch the opening song from the Banana Splits! I watched this all the time as a kid... And sorry WSH, I tried to find a clip of that Gulliver's Travels cartoon we talked about last night, but I couldn't find it on youtube...
I feel like I should be in a circus. Watch the "Amazing Annmarie" in the center ring as she balances kids, her writing, being President of the PTA, cooking, cleaning, and homework all at the same time!
I planned on starting my final revisions of Guarding Pandora on Monday. Well, that was the plan until I got an email from the chairperson of the PTA Candysale that morning telling me she quit and wouldn't have time to run the sale this year. (She is very busy). This is the biggest fundraiser for the school... Oh, and btw, all the sale information needs to be sent home WEDNESDAY because it had already been delivered to the school and is dated material. Really? Awesome! Thanks for letting me know... TWO DAYS before!! All is well though... I put out a few calls, had volunteers and everything will be sent home with kids today.
So now I have time to do my revisions... Until the orders are due the end of the month and I'll be going through 800 order forms. Ugh... I better get going on those revisions!
I swear to God I don't know what is wrong with some people. Sure, writing the genre I do I deal with the occasional weirdo... But what I dealt with recently went way beyond that. And to the the fucktard Im'ing me on Facebook...Let me make something perfectly clear: In real life or on line NO MEANS NO. And consider yourself blocked, asshole.
Today is the March on Michigan Ave for Healthcare Freedom at 11am at "The Bean". I will, of course be attending the event. We have no idea how many people will show up, with something like this you just don't know... I'll be taking pictures to post afterwards. I guess we'll see what happens...
Happy Birthday to my best friend. Not everyone has a friend that they've known for so long... (what... 22 years?!) Like the saying goes... You will always be my best friend... you know too much! LOL See you later tonight...
ps while I am bringing the cake, I can not guarantee it will be served like the picture shown. Unless I get any volunteers before I trek out to Naperville??
If you have kids in CPS you probably got two calendars sent home this week. One was a sheet of paper and the other a "calendar and directory" from CPS and Walgreens. You might have noticed that the days off on both of these are not the same. (Great, right?) You have to know what "track" your school is to actually use the Walgreens calendar because otherwise you will be thinking your school has no classes when, in fact they do... Nothing like making things easy!!
I JUST finished the first draft of Guarding Pandora. I swear to Sweet Baby Jesus I was like Joan Wilder in Romancing the Stone when she is writing the end of her novel... LOL... But now I'm sitting here all excited by myself with no one to share my excitement with!!! Argh!!!! This kind of sucks.... LOL But I don't care because I'M FINISHED!!! Can you tell I am happy? It would just be cool to have someone to celebrate with though...
I got to meet fellow blogger "Amusing Bunni" yesterday when I was at Celtic Crossing. I can now verify that she is, indeed , a real, live person. She is also great to talk to, and oddly enough comes equipped with her own bunny covered notepad... LOL (seen here)
Welcome home to Misia who spent the week in Puerto Rico. I missed you woman!! It was really good to see you (and your Bo Derek hairdo!! LOL) See you Tuesday and looking forward to our pedis after kiddies are in school.
And for those of you who don't know Misia... She is absolutley BRILLIANT when it comes to relationship advice. Seriously, this woman is always right. My other friends and I often say WWMD (what would misia do) when questioning what we should do in our own relationships.
Tuesday night I participated in a reader/author chat at Resplendence Publishing and I am happy to annouce the winners from my two contests are Laura K and Anna Lisa McK! Thanks so much for stopping by the chat and taking the time to enter the contests. It was a good time that night and I hope you had a lot of fun!! See you at the next chat! :)
Thanks so much to all the wonderful people I met the past few days driving around fliers for the anti healthcare bill march on Sept 12th downtown. I have been to firehouses, police stations, police uniform stores, doctor offices, the Polish/American Congress, libraries, Jewel stores... Thanks so much for agreeing to post fliers, pass them out and spread the word. If you would like a copy of the flier I am posting it here now. Feel free to make copies yourself, email them to family and friends, help get the word out. If you have an organization and would like multiple copies, email me and I will see what I can do to get them out to you. Thanks again!
Well dear readers... I am spending the next few hours trying to finish my rough draft of Guarding Pandora. I promised I'd have it done by the time school started again, and so I have a week left to finish it. I'm going in, so wish me luck!! LOL
