WTF!! "Proud non-reader" Kanye West turns author

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Rapper Kanye West does not read books or respect them but nevertheless he has written one that he would like you to buy and read.

The Grammy Award winner, known for his No. 1 albums and outspoken statements on everything from racism in America to the banality of Twitter, is the co-author of "Thank You And You're Welcome."

His book is 52 pages -- some blank, others with just a few words -- and offers his optimistic philosophy on life. One two-page section reads, "Life is 5% what happens and 95% how you react!" Another page reads "I hate the word hate!"

"This is a collection of thoughts and theories," West, 31, said in an interview about his spiral-bound volume, which was written with J. Sakiya Sandifer.

West said he put his thoughts in a book because "I get paraphrased and misquoted all the time." He calls his wisdom "Kanye-isms."

"My favorite one is 'Get used to being used,'" he said.

"I feel like to misuse, overuse or abuse someone is negative. To use is necessary and if you can't be used, then you are useless."

So does he fancy himself a modern-day Confucius?

"I'm trying to end the confusion," he said, laughing and adding, "I'm gonna put that on the next album."

West's derision of books comes despite the fact that his late mother, Donda West, was a university English professor before she retired to manage his music career. She died in 2007 of complications following cosmetic surgery.

"Sometimes people write novels and they just be so wordy and so self-absorbed," West said. "I am not a fan of books. I would never want a book's autograph.

"I am a proud non-reader of books. I like to get information from doing stuff like actually talking to people and living real life," he said.

West, a college dropout, said being a non-reader was helpful when he wrote his book because it gave him "a childlike purity."

West dedicates the book to his late mother.

"My mom taught me to believe in my flyness and conquer my shyness," he said, defining "flyness" as confidence. "She raised me to be the voice to allow people to think for themselves, to find their own way."

I really find this irritating. A big book deal for a 52 page book? Some pages blank??? WTF. Then he openly says he doesn't read or like books, yet a publisher gives him a book deal. Obviously it's all about the money, but what a total and complete a-hole. I can say I hope he doesn't make a dime, but I'm sure it will make a million and go into multiple print runs. Ugh.

I'm gonna have one hell of a story!"

When I told Misia I was putting this on the blog tonight I thought she was going to laugh her ass off.

Two Arrested With Stealing Injured Cop's Gun

Two people who were allegedly involved with stealing the gun from a police officer who was critically injured and pinned inside his police SUV Wednesday have been arrested, police said Friday.

Rasaan Shannon, 22, of 9810 S. Morgan St., is charged with unlawful use of a weapon, a Class 3 felony, and robbery, a Class 2 felony, police said Friday afternoon. Shannon has a criminal record but details were not immediately available. The second suspect has not been identified.

Shannon turned himself in to a South Side police station Thursday, saying he "found the gun.'' Police impounded his vehicle, a white 2001 Chevrolet Impala originally reported to be a Caprice, police said.

Officer Densey Cole II was responding to a burglary in progress when he was injured in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of West 98th and South Halsted streets about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, police said. Four other people were also injured in the wreck.

While he was pinned in his vehicle after the crash, onlookers rifled through his belongings and Shannon allegedly stole his gun.

Edward Blackledge, 85, of the 9700 block of South Emerald Avenue, was cited with failure to reduce speed and failure to yield to a vehicle entering an intersection, police said.

The brazen act angered Mayor Daley and police Supt. Jody Weis, who called the action "reprehensible" and said Cole apparently suffered a spinal injury.

"Whoever would prey on a wounded officer, incapacitated, and take his weapon and then roll him around with a spinal injury to try to steal his wallet, is reprehensible to me,'' Weis said. "I mean, what type of individual would do that? It's beyond imagination."

Cole has been a Chicago Police officer for 16 years, and his parents were also officers, officials said.

In a statement released late Thursday, Cole's sister Candee expressed thanks to the staff of Advocate Christ Medical Center for caring for her brother, as well as the "Chicago Police Department family'' and others for their well wishes.

"Densey has a true passion for police work, as it was his goal to wear the blue like his mother and father,'' Candee Cole said. "Just know that he truly enjoys serving the citizens of Chicago and all his brothers and sisters within the department.''

Department officials also expressed concern that the removal of the gun from Cole's holster had caused him to shift in a way that contributed to his injuries.

The Kiss

This was written by a friend of mine last night while we were talking to each other on IM. She isn't a published writer but I think she got the feeling of a first kiss down quite nicely. : ) I don't think there is anything like that feeling right before you kiss someone for the first time. The attraction, nervousness, tension... an incredible feeling that can leave you breathless.

The Kiss
The First Kiss,
that I live for
Nothing quite like it.

A police officer was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash on the South Side at midday, authorities said. Four other people also were hurt.

A source said that police were trying to find the officer's weapon. As of 1:48 p.m., about two hours after the accident, the gun had not been located.

The officer was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Hospital Medical Center in Oak Lawn from the crash at 98th and Halsted Streets, said Quention Curtis, a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department.

An older man and woman also were taken to Christ Hospital, and two teenagers were taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The crash, which involved three cars, happened about 11:45 a.m., said Police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.

Online Relationship Rules

How Facebook, Twitter and Gchat Can Ruin Your Relationship. (Taken from Glamour magazine online)
With so many ways to communicate, the rules of dating etiquette are constantly in flux. Keep the following tips in mind before you make a cyberspace faux pas.
(My comments are in the parenthesis)

DON’T change your Facebook relationship status without discussing it first. (My personal life isn't any one's business. I always just leave it as "complicated" because it usually is!!LOL)

DON’T post your make-out photos. (Ewwwww... no thanks!)

DO delete some of those pics of your ex-boyfriend.

DON’T take it personally if he’s not as chatty as you’d like.
(You have to love those unlimited texting plans!!! Thank God for those, right?)

DON’T drink and text. (I have been guilty in the past of emailing after a few margaritas and it was BAD!!! LOL I vowed never to do that again!)

DON’T use status updates to publicize every stage of your relationship.
(I personally think it's funny if you make a few comments about people online other people think you are in a relationship with them.... Ummmm... not necessarily!! And to the people who do this... Get a clue fucktards!!)

DON’T use the Internet as a way to get to know his friends and family before you’ve met them in person. (I don't know if I agree with this. My friends are pretty cool and I would trust their judgement of someone.)

DON’T Twitter stalk each other. (The only person I know Twitter stalking someone is a weatherman from Chicago who is stalking one of my best friends on Twitter!)

Phrase of the Day "Missing Link"

Missing Link

A man who is covered head to toe with thick and wiry hair. He's so hairy, he's the missing link that connects humans to apes.

Joe: "Damn, it's 115 degrees out here. Why doesn't Tom take off his shirt?"
Dick "That poor bastard is so hairy, he got tired of being called the missing link."

On a personal note.... Can I just say "ewwwwwww." These guys need a MAJOR wax job!!

U & Ur Hand

Thanks to Misia for telling me about this song. The video rocks. Click below to watch it.

For a friend

I saw this saying and thought it was perfect for a friend of mine. But, I have to say... I think it applies to a lot of us. And I think... it is so rare now days to meet a person that is a true friend... And when you find them, do whatever you have to keep them. There might come a time when they are gone and you will miss them.

And the song for today... Lisa Loeb "Waiting for Wednesday"

Life Password- definition

Life Password

The password that you use for every website, email account, facebook, twitter, everything. Having a 'life password' is not a good idea, but everyone does it.

Examplein a sentence:
My friend found out my life password and wrecked my facebook account, stole all my paypal money and emailed offensive images to my mother.

My cousin had a life password at one point and I thought of her as soon as I read this.

Brooke Shields Strips Down

The actress finally lets something come between her and her Calvins, as the 43-year-old mother of two tosses off those jeans during a steamy photo shoot for the Australian magazine Kurv, proving to the world that she's still a pretty baby. Maybe that's what makes Kiefer Sutherland go into bodyguard mode when he's around her.

OK, enough with the hokey career references. Let's check out some more pics after the jump, shall we?

Cobra Yawn (definition)

Cobra Yawn

The involuntary spraying of saliva while yawning. Much like the venom spray from a cobra. In most cases the yawner doesn't realized it has happened only finding the aftermath once the yawn is over.

I just cobra yawned all over my keyboard five minutes prior to writing this definition.

Sarah Palin Erotica Website

Think you've seen everything? Think again... LOL

This site was inspired by the many news stories focusing on Sarah Palin’s sexuality, overtly or otherwise, as well as erotica such as “Dan Quayle’s Dick” by Susie Bright and Stephen Elliott’s anthology Sex for America: Politically Inspired Erotica. The stories are 100% fiction and as such, can comment on Sarah Palin, her image, her campaign, her ideology, and, yes, her sexuality, in ways that nonfiction cannot, although many articles have appeared in the “VPILF” vein.

Julian Mentions Me In His New Interview!

How did you get to be a cover model?

I’d done modeling work for Saks 5th Ave, Men’s Health, Claiborne and others. The romance novels came a little later on in my career. My good friend Annmarie Ortega who is a romance novel author herself told me that I should pursue it. She hooked me up with some publishers and it just bloomed.

Thanks so much for mentioning me in your interview! That was very cool of you and you didn't have to do that. (But I admit I thought it was totally kick ass that you did... haha)Now aren't you glad we started talking to each other on MySpace? Otherwise you would have missed RT that year and never done any book covers!

Lost My Focus, Lost My Muse

I took some time off from writing because of personal reasons. That's one of the things about writing... it's not like you go into an office and have a boss hanging over your shoulder watching you do your job. When you write it's all on you to either produce something that day, or not. Lately I have not.

Because of the fact I have been tremendously busy with the PTA, kids, psyching myself out to go back to school, painting and decorating a guest bedroom, dealing with my mom's health issues, my birthday, etc... I put the writing on the back burner for a while. I've had issues with my personal life, love life, you name it and I've dealt with it recently. I admit, putting writing on hold happens. You get burnt out and fed up and unmotivated for various reasons. (Marianne will back me up on this. We have had many a conversation on trying to figure out where the hell our muses had run off to...)Because of all the things happening around me I let myself lose touch with doing something that I am passionate about, that makes me happy and makes me feel complete. I desperately need to get that back.

So I decided that playtime is over. Time to get back to that novel that is around half way finished. Time to knock it out and move on to the next project on my list. (There are currently six waiting to be written!)This summer I plan on writing my ass off (along with studying for school.) And I'm even considering doing NaNoWriMo this November! (It's National Novel Writing Month, you commit to write an entire novel in just one month! I know Marianne will give me crap about this... LOL)

Now I am officially back to writing... but I'm going to start tomorrow because right now it's too late and I need to get to bed... : )

Submissive by Anya Howard

I was at Barnes and Noble today and saw that a friend of mine had her book released. I opened it to take a look and was happily surprised to see my name listed along with some other writer friends in the acknowledgements. That does not happen every day, and I thought it was very cool!! Thanks Anya!!

Word of the day-- "READER'S BLOCK"

Related to Writer's Block, this is when you cannot, for the life of you, pick up a book and read it. Sure, you may be able to read a paragraph or two, or maybe even a page, but you don't retain anything of what you just read or have the attention span and/or will to go on. This is common for those who have ADD, are in possession of garbage literature, or are just so exhausted from having to read so many books during school/college that reading anything else, even for pleasure, has become impossible. To those who love to read, this is worse than heart disease and cancer combined.

Eddie - Hey, man, I see you're reading McCarthy's The Road. Nice.

Nerdlinger - I'm trying to read it, but I got this damn reader's block! I'm 20 pages in but I don't remember anything. Fuck!

Eddie - Poor bastard.

Tuesday Part One

Not much more to say about this... Marilyn said it best. I have so much to write about today I need to sit and think to figure it all out. More later tonight...

Twitter Feed Now on My Blog

I added my Twitter updates (or Tweets) on the side bar here under the "about me" section. It's basically a one liner of information that gets sent to my Twitter "followers". I don't go on there all the time like some people do, but I try for at least once a day. My favorite Tweets come from John Mayer and Steve Dahl... In fact I have become addicted to reading his (Steve's) Tweets because they are so f*cking funny most of the time. A friend and I have an ongoing bet to see which one of our responses he will answer to first. And I have a friend who gets some....ummmm... let's say "inappropriate" messages from a certain Chicago weatherman on there... LOL. I'm not saying who though, you will have to guess. : )

Mother's Day Video

Watch this...Too funny... Gotta love family!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers out there!! LOL I hope you have a great day and get to enjoy yourselves. Misia and I celebrated a few days early when we treated ourselves to pedicures on Friday morning. We laughed a lot while we were there... although I'm still not sure if I like the term "Frankentoe"!! LMAO (If you read my blog last summer you will know I had a botched up surgery on my right foot last year. I spent all summer going to doctors and on various antibiotics. It was a nightmare. It's still all jacked up, but at least now it is pretty...)

So have a great day and make sure to tell your mom you love her!

Police Bust 'Cinco De Porno' Event At Indiana Bar

2 Naked Dancers Arrested WHITING, Ind. (CBS) ―

A northwest Indiana bar got busted this week for putting on a Cinco De Mayo celebration that involved more than just margaritas.

Indiana Excise Police raided Jen's Apartment Bar, at 1701 Indianapolis Blvd. in Whiting, Ind., early Wednesday morning, after receiving complaints of nudity at the bar.

The event had been scheduled to go on for two nights. A MySpace advertisement for the Cinco De Porno event said it was to be held May 5 and 6, with shows and 10 p.m. and midnight each night. The bar sold limited tickets for the event for either $20 per show or $30 for both shows.

"We have PORN STAR, JENNIFER STEELE, coming in to do her fireshow, as well as two other hot ass strippers... so, get to jens quick and get your tickets because they are selling out like you wouldn't believe..." said the MySpace ad.

Steele was also scheduled to release her new adult film, according to the ad.

Undercover excise officers came to one of the shows, and found two dancers, Renee Sikes, 28, and Amber Harrison, 20, of Milwaukee, both naked. They were arrested with the assistance of Hammond police, and the bar was cited by Indiana Excise Police for public nudity and not having employee records.

The case is being forwarded to the state Alcohol and Tobacco Commission in Indianapolis.
